Considered one of the best Christians in the community. Ambrose White, a Negro who belonged to Melville’s father used to say, “Mr. Melville Walker ks the only man around here who ought to be sure he is g’wine to Heaven.”
25Obituary: Richmond Times Dispatch Friday Dec 9, 1904: Walkerton Va Dec 8. Mr. Melville Walker died at his residence, Locust Groe. last evening in the58th year of age, after a short illness of pneumonia. He volunteered durng the Civil War when only seventeen years of age, and made a gallant soldier; was captured and kept a prisoner for a long time at Point Lookout. He was universally veloved and respected, and his death has cast a gloom over the entire community. His was a sincere Christian, ever faithful and true to his church and Sunday-school, from which he was never absent unless prevented by sickness. He was a steward in the Methodist Church for many years. He married Miss Virginia Henley who with three children, survive him.
