Daughter of Leonard Hill, a merchant who lived at, or near, Bowler's on the Rappahannock River.

Named in the will of her father as Ann Tunstall, dated May 12, 1728. At the time of her second marrigae, she was a young widow of twenty, with one child. The will of her brother, Leonard Hill, second of the name, mentions sisters, "Ann Tunstall, Catherine Price and Betty Hill, whose will was proved March 19, 1733.
