Article on her death in Richmond New Leader - October 31, 1907 on Maria's death: Fatal Fall Down Steps _____ Mrs. Maria Louisa Turner, 78 Years Old; Loses Her Life Here. ______ Beloved Woman is Injured Internally ________Member of Son-in-Law's Family Rush to Her Aid and Do All They Can for Her--Member of Old Sycamore Church. Mrs. Maria Louisa Turner widow of W. D. Turner, who for a number of years was a successful merchant at Walkerton, being engaged in business at that place under the firm name of Turner and Acree, died about one o'clock this afternoon in the home of her son-in-law, Thomas M. Hundley of the firm of Sydnor and Hundley in his home, 1516 Floyd Avenue, as the result of a fall all the way down a flight of steps. Mrs. Turner was injured internally. Although she received the best of attention, the attending physicians, Drs. Williams and Bosher, gave little hope of saving her life, but did all they could to alieviate her suffering. Mrs. Turner was born in King and Quen County, seventy-eight years ago. She was a Miss Pendleton before her marriage to Mr. Turner. Shortly after partaking of her evening meal Sunday, Mrs. Turner started up the steps toward her room, and had evidently gotten at the top when she fell. Those in the house ran to her aid and a physician was summoned. Mrs. Turner grew steadily worse, pneumonia setting in and probably hastening her death. Mrs. Turner leaves a numbesr of daughters and relatives who are prominent in the social life of Virginia and other States. She is survived by five daughters--Mrs. John H. Clarkson of Chicago; Mrs. J. M. Turner of Newport News; Mrs. Addie Allen, Mrs. T. M. Hundley and Mrs. J. C. Minson of Richmond; and one son, W. P. Turner of Charleston, W. Va. She also leaves threee sisters--Mrs. Courtney, wife of a prominent and successful doctor in Louisiana; Mrs. C. A. Pendleton of Walkerton, and Mrs. John Crump of King and Queen County; and one brother--John V. Pendleton of Dinwiddie county. Mrs. Turner was a member of the old Sycamore Church in Twelfth Street before that congregation began to worship in the Seventh Street Christian Church. Mrs. Turner then became a member of the latter church. All persons who knew her held Mrs. Turner in high esteem. She was a lovable Christian woman. In the earlier part of her life she devoted much of her time to church work. The funeral will probably take place tomorrow afternoon from the Seventh Street Christian Church.
