In the early 1900s Ben Walker had the contract for delivering the Walkerton mail, which came from Richmond to Lester Manor on the Southern Railway, and was then brought to Walkerton.
22Was always trying to help others. When his first cousin, Singleton Walker, bacame ill with high blood pressure so that he could not work, he went to Ben’s and stayed there several weeks before he died. When Singleton’s sister, Ellen, became old and feeble, she also went there for a short time, just before she died. Ben’s wife, Murray Garrett Walker, nursed both of them as tenderly as if they had been her own brother or sister.
