Misc. Notes
Called Mary Bet.
William Walker (Temple Walker’s son) left home about fifteen years before his cousin Mary Bet was born and came back when she was nearly thirty years old. The first time she saw him she said, “Well, Cousin William, I declare I would never in this world have known you.” When BB Bagby and his wife visited her she said, “Alpha, you surely do look like Cousin Watson Walker’s daughter Lucy Latane,” I said, “Several people have told her that. Cousin Lucy Latane was very pretty, wasn’t she?’ “Yes,” said Cousin Mary Bet, “She was very pretty, but you know that ugly people and pretty people can look alike.” Mrs. Ella Crump loved to fish and went quite often. Col Alex Bagby also loved to fish, so he and Mrs. Crump often talked of their fishing experiences. One Sunday while at Smyrna, Mrs. Crump was telling him of how many chub she had cought in the Walkerton mill pond the previous day. Then she said, “Slex, I have a bosat on the pond and plenty of bait. come on down and I will take you fishing.” Cousin Mary Bet spoke up and said, “Ella you need not waste your time inviting Alex to go fishing with you, for Fannie has no idea of letting him go.” And so ended the proposed fishing trip.
