After marriage lived at “Langley” in Essex Co.
Became the furst postmaster of record of Walkerton in 1802. He kept the office less than a year, and probably took it only because of public confidence in him on his own account and as a member of a prominent and influential family. He built, or started to build, the famous flour mill at Walkerton, and in 1805 insured his dwelling, kitchen, storehouse and granary for $3600. He is listed in the King and Queen Tax Books of this period as owning 42 acres of land, probably the land on which part of the village of Walkerton now stands.
