Gave “Oakland to their son Benjamin Whatcoat McLelland and his wife Mary Evelyn Quarles McLelland as a wedding gift. Later Oakland was sold by McLelland to SC Vaughn in 1898 and then to John Thomas (JT) Barefoot, Sr in 1903.
Was a Methodist circuit rider who is said to have preached at Pace’s Church in 1780.

As a Methodist minister united John Walker and Margaret Shepherd in marriage at Shepherd’s Chapel in 1829.

Thoroughly dedicated to the cause of Methodism and its beliefs; devoutly religious parents, Hezekiah and Mary McLelland named all but one of their children for ministers or bishops of the Methodist faith.21


The fourth offical postmaster of Walkerton VA and served begainning March 1820 for little over a year.22
